New Ideas — Bright Lights & Oregon Beauty

I’ve decided to start writing a weekly blog. I have found I have a heap of thoughts that I feel are important and interesting. I decided they need writing down so I may as well share them here. I’ve also just come back from a fantastic holiday in the US and Canada on which I took over 4000 photos so this will be somewhere I can post one or two a week as I slowly go through them. So here goes… I’ll see how many weeks I can go without missing a post. If you like what you read, you can share using the links at the bottom or comment and let me know your thoughts. I’d love to hear from you!

What is Your Wattage? [Part 1]

Today was the first day of Festival of Faith here at College. Our week of worship for the semester has got off to a great start. Our speaker is Jo Darby, from Newcastle, and her message tonight was strong. The theme for the week is The House That Bears His Name and tonight Jo presented the idea that is brought up in the New Testament where we are His temple. His dwelling place.

God spoke to David through Nathan the prophet and told him, in 2 Samuel 7, that He will rise up a people in whom He will establish His Kingdom forever. That group of people now includes us, as Christians. He has made us temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) and commissioned us to look after ourselves. Therefore, our lives should be bearing His name. Does yours? If someone were to walk into your life, would they see Christ behind all that you do?

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness” (John 8:12). He also declared in Matthew 5 that we too are a light to the world. He gave us our job description, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (v 16). Christ sent us to all nations (Matt 28:19) commissioning us to become “sons of light” (John 12:36) reflecting the Energy Source of our light into the dark world.

Contemplation Point

In the contemplation section I’ll share a verse and maybe a quote that I’ve found meaningful or that relates to my thoughts shared above.

Let a man set his heart only on doing the will of God and he is instantly free. — AW Tozer

You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:14-16 The Message

Weekly Photos — Oregon Beauty

The first weekly photos to make an appearance probably aren’t the best shots of the 4000, but I’m posting them because they haven’t been posted here yet. Some may have seen them on Facebook though. If I started with the best, they’d just progressively get worse, and that could get to be a bit boring.

I took this photo on the side of the road one afternoon on a day trip from Crater Lake to Umpqua National Forest. I can’t tell you the name of the mountain in the background because I don’t remember it, but I do like the vibrancy and colour in the flowers.

This photo was taken on the same day in Umpqua National Forest. We visited a bunch of waterfalls and so I have no idea what the name of this one is unfortunately. I really loved Oregon, it’s such a beautiful state to drive through!

LOVED the quote!!! Thanks for sharing. Of course the Oregon pictures made me a tad bit homesick, but then with friends like you all, how could I stay that way??? Love the young man of God that you are!!! May His blessings continue to abound in your life.
